The laying of the 18′′ mild steel supply main from Nathan Road via Waterloo Road, together with the construction of the access steps from Waterloo Road, was completed. At the end of the year there only remained the completion of the roof slab, and filling thereon, trimming, forming, turfing and channels to banks, and generally cleaning up the site.

Distribution Mains.-The following work was carried out under this head:-496 feet of 12" cast iron main were laid in Chatham Road at Hung Hom, 200 feet of 12" cast iron main in Chatham Road near San Lau Street, 150 feet of 8" cast iron main in Bulkeley Street, 57 feet of 8" and 220 feet of 6" cast iron main in Wuhu Street. 800 feet of 6" cast iron main in Mody Road, 670 feet of 6" cast iron main in Argyle Street at Ho Man Tin, 510 feet of 6′′ cast iron main in Ching Lung Street. 220 feet of 8" cast iron main were taken up in Bulkeley Street, 120 feet of 6" and 110 feet of 5" cast iron main in Wuhu Street, 560 feet of 4" cast iron main in Mody Road.

Distribution Circuit from New Reservoir.-The follow- ing work was carried out under this head:-690 feet of 18" steel main were laid from Nathan Road to Yaumati Service Reservoir, 600 feet of 18" cast iron main from Yaumati Service Reservoir to King's Park, 4,020 feet of 12" cast iron main in Chatham Road, 1,700 feet of 12" cast iron main in Canton Road, 1,400 feet of 12" cast iron main in Battery Street, 1,165 feet of 12" cast iron main in Jordan Road, 310 feet of 12" cast iron main in Salisbury Road. 84 feet of 12′′ cast iron main were taken up in Jordan Road, 2,350 feet of 6" and 985 feet of 5′′ cast iron main in Chatham Road.

178. B. & F. Department Quarters & Store at Shamshuipo.- The formation to approved levels of an area of about 14 acres of low lying land surrounding the new B. & F. Department Quarters and Store was undertaken. About one acre was completed at the end of the year.
A Contract amounting to $10,750.00 was let to Messrs. Kin Lee & Co. for the erection of a two storey building, containing two sets of quarters with kitchen and bathroom, latrines and store on the ground floor, and on the first floor a large dormitory for twenty men with iness room and kitchen. The Contract was completed in a satisfactory manner by the end of the year,

179. Market at Tong Mi.-The work consists of the erection of a market of 36 stalls, but owing to shortage of staff it could not be undertaken during 1983.

181. Drainage—(a) Training Nullahs.-The invert of the nullah in Sam Tak Road was completed. A nullah with decking was constructed at Castle Peak Road, Wong Uk, and the eastern nullah wall with parapet walling at Lai Chi Kok Nullah was com- pleted.

(b) Miscellaneous Drainage Works.-New sewers and storm water drains varying in diameter from 66" to 6", were constructer to a length of 14,761 feet, principally in Shamshuipo, Cheung Sha Wan, Shek Kip Mei, and Kowloon City. The number of drain connections made was 230. Many new gullies were con structed and connected to the existing storm water drainage system.

182. Miscellaneous.-The following were the principal works executed under this heading :-Formation of pigstye site, west of Kowloon City, Levelling open space at rear of N.K.I.L. 1414, Filling in pool on Crown Land lying between Yu Chau Street and Taipo Road, Levelling area between Shek Ku Lung Road and Sa Po Road at the rear of Kowloon City Market. Four beacons were constructed on the foothills to the East of Kowloon Bay to replace the existing measured mile.
